Palmer competes in exhibition at The Insperity Championship

Patrons of The Insperity Championship will have an opportunity to see Arnold Palmer play with Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino compete in a special competition Saturday afternoon of tournament week at The Woodlands Tournament Course.

The tournament has created a Greats of Golf competition that will also include Don January, Miller Barber, Gene Littler, David Graham and Dave Stockton.

On Saturday, May 5, this powerful and entertaining group of the game's greatest players will tee off following the last tee time of the official competition. These nine players will play in threesomes and will play an 18-hole scramble format.

It is now more than 50 years since Arnold Palmer founded the concept of the modern majors during a convivial conversation with a journalist friend on a flight over to Scotland to play in the 1960 Open at St Andrews.

Hauser was granted inside access to Palmer, his family, his friends and his business associates. The behind-the-scenes look also includes photographs from Palmer’s archive, allowing an intimate look into the life of a sporting icon.

Palmer, now 82, is arguably golf’s most popular figure and a champion on and off the course. His playing career included 92 world-wide victories, 62 PGA Tour wins and seven major championships. He captured four Masters titles, two British Opens and one U.S. Open.

Having won seven major championships and competed in more than 150 in his illustrious career, Arnold Palmer certainly knows enough about what goes into making a golf tournament special. Palmer would never be so bold as to claim that the tournament that bears his name, the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, is a major championship. But that doesn't mean that the golf legend known as "The King" doesn't strive to make his annual PGA TOUR event at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge as good as it can be, with a world-class golf course to challenge the game's best players and as many nice touches as possible to make both competitors and fans feel welcome.
